I’ve been using neosporin without pain reliever, and spraying BANNIXX for CHIXX all around her neck.
She tries to get the neosporin off, probably swallows some, BUT …

I’m concerned that she had a swollen side last week, I posted and asked about it, I’m brand new to raising chickens, and adult chicken ripped all the fluff and skin off this poor baby, it’s ALL my fault I know.

I just need to know if anything laid eggs or if it’s still posssible for any bugs to lay eggs in her neck area.

There was no skin for her to grow back, just ligaments sticking out. Poor thing. I did the best I could and it happened over a week ago and I’m so happy she’s still with us.
Although she is lonely, I feel super protective.

Please lmk about her swollenness and if anything can lay eggs on her skin! The first two pics in the box is right now, the next one is a piece of skin hanging off (that I’m curious about) &then when the swollenness went away, then the spray I’m using, then 4 of last week when it was swollen again …. then 2 of what it first looked like when it happened so yall have an idea what I’m talking about

Sorry for rambling!

Thanks so much!!!

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your chick. I work in human healthcare by trade and based on some of your pictures (IMG7030, 7038, 7002, and 7005) it looks to me like a collection of fluid. That being said, it could be completely benign like a pocket of serous fluid or oil or it could be an abscess. From there you'll have to do an exam on your bird and pay attention to it's behavior:
  • Has the mass been getting larger?
  • Is the skin getting red and/or hot?
  • Is there any kind of drainage coming from it?
  • Is it acting sick (isolating, weakness, lethargy, poor appetite)?
If it is getting larger, redder/hotter, or your bird starts to act sick, I would strongly lead toward an infectious process going on and, in human medicine, we would lance the abscess, wash it out with low-pressure sterile saline (not peroxide or alcohol, too harsh or health cells) and they would have the wound backed so that it doesn't seal back up and reform. We don't even prescribe antibiotics in most simple abscesses because once the source of infection is controlled, the body does a fine job by itself (ofc there are patient specific variables).

For future injuries, my preferred antimicrobials for my birds have been a chlorhexidine solution (you can pick up a large concentrate at most feed stores or pharmacies) and for larger, open areas, manuka honey (also at feed stores and pharmacies) dressings directly on the wound and then a wet-to-dry dressing over the manuka honey and change it daily or it becomes soiled. Wounds need protein to heal well so I will provide my injured birds a higher protein diet (scrambled eggs, meat bird/turkey feed) and a vitamin supplement (I like Poultry Nutri-Drench, be careful-it's weight based dosing) for several days to promote the wound healing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much!! It’s not red or anything, she has a lot of energy and since I secluded her I imagine she’s? lonely, she always wants out of the box so I let her out on my cats tree house on one level covered with paper so poop won’t be a problem, but she just takes off on the couch (it’s literally touching the couch except her level is higher up) I thought it was deter her from jumping on the ground, but no she’ll go onto the couch and want literally anyone sitting there to hold her, give her attention, she eats and drinks plenty, normal bowel movements.
That swollen part actually went away for a few days, but it came back so idk what it could be!

Idk if it posted the other pics I posted but the original injury, an adult chick tore off all her neck skin and I assume held her down bc I just saw it happen again. So they are officially being separated until they can learn to run and dodge attacks like the older ones do.
I was so mad at the adults and more mad at myself, when I look at my post it only shows the pic of her with the swollen shoulder. Also, I would get a diaper for her to roam free (so I wouldn’t have to follow her around bc they poop soooo much. Also I wouldn’t know how to clean her backside to hold her in place, AND it holds in place by literally hanging onto the part of her that’s injured. I saw a meme of someone using a plastic bag…? So maybe I can get a clear larger sowing bag, and poke some holes for her feet and see if that works?
It’s been over 2 weeks now that she’s been away from the rest. I just want her hair or feathers to come back, and the skin is peeling, I know skin peels but hers I like want to peel it for her since it’s pretty big dead chunks barely hanging on.
