Feild Corn? Is this safe?

Ok so I know my chicks are going to be to small to eat whole corn for a while and even then I might want to crack it (I don't know why but that just makes me laugh anyways) Right next to our house is a corn field. A farmers corn field and in it is the corn that the combine missed last fall. I am thinking about sending my kids out with a wagon to pick it up....hey its just going to waste anyway right? haha My thought was it would be something good to through in the coop to let the chickens peck at to have some fun...

Is that safe? And the reason I am asking is because I know the farmer sprays Something on the crops I don't know exactly what but have seen him spraying... if it was LAST fall as in several months ago it has been laying out there would that make it better?

Its probably safe. They usu sally don't spray after the ears start to form. Still after laying on the ground for the winter the bottom of the ears are starting to rot in the wet spring mud. A good idea to glean the field though. If you can, talk to the farmer. Might have to offer something for the privilege to glean, but its nice to be on good terms with the neighbors. I do throw in unshelled ears for them to pick at.
