Female goats and issues!

I had one boy kid once and dropped dead from kid lac from the feed store. Also had a friend who lived with me for a little while, saw one of my baby males down left her Facebook open on my computer messaging her boyfriend to stay "hush hush" because she didn't like the goat anyway. He froze to death because of that. Any way, i Switched to uni lac and a little bit of ensure yes, the people drink, and lily grew like hell and did great!!

I also keep a bottle of nutri drench on hand for those situations now. Eventually I'm going to have a freaking animal ER supply of crap. Jeez.

See, that's what I'm saying, we each find what works for us, I only use certain brand, others use cows milk. As far as all the meds, there are few vets around here that work on or even know goats so we do all our own vetting too. The thing with bottle feeding is right temp, not too much, slowly increase amounts, they will die fast if improperly fed, but once you figure it out it is easy. Certainly will wait to hear if you get one.

Will do! If I could buy all the males at this dairy I would. Every time I go there there's just barrels of dead males because they don't get the special attention the females do like being inside the barn with a heat lamp and being bottle fed. Sad.

She might, for a bit, but eventually they will be best friends, I have two lamancha boys, gotten this year, and an alpine cross as well, amongst others, I "rescue dairy boys" from Easter Dinner, I feed them goat milk replacer when young, saying that will make goat people go nuts, mine do fine on it and I like the ease of feeding it, despite the talk they don't drop dead from being raised on it. The thing with goats is they make you have to try to be smarter than them.

Goats are funny and they don't read the books. Some kids do just fine on replacer, some don't, and some do fine for a while and then blow up and die. If I were you I would keep a supply of GasX on hand just in case. It is cheap insurance. If kids are going to bloat they usually do so shortly after feeding and GasX will deflate them promptly. Just because you haven't had any trouble with kids and replacer, doesn't mean you won't. And maybe you never will. There is no way to tell. The people, including me, who warn you about replacers are not just being paranoid. Some of us have learned from experience. As for replacers, any really good calf replacer will do as long as it is all milk products, no soy. When I fed replacer, I got a permium one and I think it was 20% fat and 20% protein. I have not found that the kids do any better on the replacers made especially for kids than they do on a really good calf replacer. They can blow up and die on those expensive kid replacers too, and a lot of those kid replacers cost more than store milk so there is no advantage to feeding them. The only reason to feed replacers is because they are cheaper than milk. It certainly isn't because they are better for the kids.

I have deleted a few posts here. Please do not argue ok?. We are all entitled to our opinions however do it nicely without attacking someone please. If you feel you have had enough of this subject, then do not continue to post.

Well, my friend hasn't had any luck establishing dominance. But Lilly is happy. She stood on her hind legs and helped me get rid of all the low hanging branches on my big trees in my yard. She was sooooo happy!
