Female with Drake Feather?

I just traded some chicks for a few adult Pekins to add to my own breeding flock and one of the birds has drake feathers but also quacks like a hen
Has anyone ever have a duck like that??? should I cull it?

Some hens have a curly feather, and a few drakes have stronger quacks than average. I'd leave it in, its not an issue, and if its a hen, you want the eggs. If its a drake, you'll maybe need it to propogate your pekings.

But seriously, when I made my ducks the housing I used angle grinders (that loud powertool) a LOT, and a jay (Garrulus glandarius) - which happened to seek a new home in our garden that time - mimicked it's sound. So, maybe you have a talented duck.

The thick body type on this bird is nice so I am hoping it is a female she would go well with my one male but if it's a male I would worry his voice would pass to his sons then I will have a whole flock of ducks that can't be sexed easily

I will sell it if it's a he I already have 2 males so don't need another but since you'll seem to agree a female is okay with drake feathers I will keep if it's a she never can have to many eggs!
I tried vent sexing on this duck once but it is really hard to hold a big ol duck like that so I may try one more time if that doesn't work I guess I will wait for an egg or to see it breed

the suspense might kill me

Correct me if I'm wrong but AFAIK vent sexing is possible only after hatching and before their first meal, when the anal muscles are loose.
Any later the chance grows that the bird is harmed in such maneuver. I hope that she is a girl.

False, vent sexing can be done later as well if the person knows what they are doing and are gentle. The keys words being GENTLE and KNOWLEDGEABLE

If you want to try again wrap the duck in a towel, that way it can't squirm so much. Good luck and hope you got a girl.
