Bit of a history: About six months ago someone gave me a male finch, and I got him a female shortly afterwards. (His last mate - a society finch - had just died and he was lonely) They were happy together and build a huge nest (He's a little overzealous about a nest) They had their first batch of eggs, but the eggs never hatched. Shortly afterwards the female started plucking, and then the male. They were rather upset about the eggs, and lost interest in the nest. They both had an accident with my cat where the male nearly died, and now both have a lame wing. Fast forward five months and they still haven't laid, and the plucking has settled in. Then about two weeks ago the male started mating with the female, and I thought they were going to try again. They stopped mating about three days ago, and the problem set in.
The problem: My female finch started getting puffy, and lost her energy starting about four days ago. The male kept reaching over and plucking her head feathers, and not even that would bother her. (She's now bald on her head) She has no energy and the classic 'droopy eyes' of a sick pet. She sleeps in her food dish, and once in a blue moon she'll peep sadly to her mate. Up until today she's been moving, but today she doesn't want to do anything. She also keeps shaking her head and working her beak like she's singing without noise. I've tried feeling for a stuck egg, but I can't feel anything. Where they haven't laid for so long I thought she just got pregnant the other day since they were happy. Her stool is runny and a yellow-ish color. She's eating (or was until today) but not drinking. She's still puffed up and has her wings apart from her a little bit, and shakes a lot.
The cage: She's got a cuttle bone perch, two nests and a bird bath for water. (They REFUSE to use a normal water dish) along with the normal perches and such that come along with it. I give her egg every now and then, and she's got treats she eats. (millet) They cage is up high where there's not a lot of human company, and it gets a lot of sun except for the last week. (It's been raining/snowing)

Any ideas what could be going wrong with her? I'm trying to raise some money to get her to a vet, but I don't know how to keep her comfortable until I can do that. :( The male isn't sick, just her. Could it be a bound egg? If so, how do I check and what can I do until I can raise money to get her to the vet?
