Fence for goat, what size and other goat ?s

We have three wethers and keep them in a five foot fence. They have never tried to climb the fences. That could be because we have climbing boxes for them They love to climb up on the boxes and climb into chairs to snooze. We feed our wethers medicated goat pellets I have never heard of feeding agoat horse feed. Although our horse sometimes shares his feed with Teddy one of our nigerian dwarfs. I don't encourage this as it can cause problems but when Teddy is determined he gets his head in there anyway. What kind of goats do you have that will determine what you should be feeding . A milking goat should not eat medicated feed etc. hope this helps Micki

We have been keeping Ed teathered and moving him every day or so since we got him. I had no idea so may other people do that

I wanted to get him a "Dog" house to sleep in but the hubby informed me it probably not be a good idea with the three big bear we have knowing iving near by. And reminded me of the goat on Jarassic Park

not a good thought. So he is currently spending the night in our garage. I paln to build him a small shed to go into at night or bad weather over the weekend.

Ed is a mixed breed we really have no idea what kind. He is between the size of a pigmy and a nubian with the flopy ears. We plan on having him nutered as soon as he is big enough (we heard horror stories of them being nuttered to early and it killing them) Since getting him I have trained him to walk on a lead and he wears a dog collar with our phone number and his name incase he would ever get loose. He loves to go for walks just like a dog would all the neighbors find it rather odd til they remeber I do the same thing with my pet raccoon.lol

So basicly all I have to feed him is good hay? is this even in the winter? we live in Nepa and will the hay be enough when he cant forage?

Also I plan to get him a buddy as soon as I can since he is currently the only "herd" animal I have which would be better to get him a nother weather or a nanny? Would it make a difference if he is nuttered what sex I get to put with him?

Thank you again for so much great info!

He won't care if you get a wether or a nanny if he has been wethered. He will just enjoy the company. Goats are not loners. Whats sweet is when they sleep at nite all cuddled together.

I have always supplemented my goats with sweet feed. I've had goats for over 9 years and they are very healthy. Mine love treats of any kind. All my kitchen scraps go out to them and in the fall I feed them our jackolanterns. At the end of the summer I'll have them clean out my garden. They will eat it all down and then my dh will till it under. They are good cleaners. They won't miss a blade of grass.

The only problem I've ever had was when I had a nanny that would go under the fence and one would jump the fence. My FIL told me to tie them together with about a 5 ft distance between them. That way when the one jumped the other wouldn't and I wouldn't loose that goat. When the one went under the fence the other wouldn't go so they would just stand there and holler. They knew I'd be right out to fix the prob. This kept me from having to run one down and catch it. They don't want to go back in their pen once they get out. Always greener on the other side!
