Update -
I clipped one of the wings on all the birds, with the exception of one rooster, long story....
Anyway, I let them out when I fed the next morning, and watched them eat.... went inside and the next thing I know there are two birds on my porch??? Grrrr.... Later, about half of them were over the fence and out.....
So, I close the gate - with those who escaped still outside - and fed in the afternoon, inside, and watched... It seems they would try and fly over , but get to about 3 feet.... on the 4 foot fence.... then stick their feet in the fence and "walk" up as they flapped... til they got to the top, then perched on it and jumped in.... hmmm....
I had some left over fencing, so I made a 1 foot lip for the top of the fence, that I bent in at about a 45 degree angle. They would then try to fly/climb the fence, get to the lip, and give up.
So far, 4 days and no escapees! Keeping my fingers crossed.
