Fence mesh size for runners

Hi, quick question for those of you who keep runner ducks. What size mesh fence would you feel comfortable using to contain them? Would 3x3 be OK? 4x4?

I'm not worried about juveniles, just adult ducks. It's not for predators, I just need the little dears to stay in my yard. I've kept Campbells and Harlequins before but next year will be my first with runners and I need to re-fence.

Thanks for your advice! Catherine

I don't have runners but to simplify things my duck run is surrounded in a 4' tall page wire fence and then I ran 24" chicken wire along the bottom of the run. It stopped my muscovies from going through the page wire.

I generally use 2"x3" woven wire a.k.a. page wire a.k.a. mesh fence. That's just for the pens they are in when I am nearby.

For the day pen, where they stay while I am not close by, I have the 2x3 and coated 1 inch chicken wire over that. Yes, I get a bit cautious with fencing. There is also fence across the top of the day pen, because foxes can jump.

By the way - twice, I have had a duck (one Runner, one Buff) get her neck stuck, woven into the fence. Another reason to use a coated chicken wire or similar lightweight fencing inside the mesh fence.
