I used 2X4 welded wire up the sides and over the top. I then ran 36 inch hardware clothe all the way around the run two feet up the sides and a foot out for the skirting. I used landscaping clothe staples to hold down the skirting. The grass grew right through the skirting and you can't see it. Nothing has gotten in in a year. About the only thing that could get in the run at this point would be a weasel or a bear. Everything in between pretty much locked out. The coop has hardware clothe under the flooring, around the door, over the windows with regular screen added to keep out mosquitoes. It cost me a bit more, but I think my birds are much more safe this way. I have every dang predator you can think of here including wolves and the occasional cougar (the DNR recently admitted they are around after some were caught on trail cams and being shot on a front porch while trying to eat a dog). Here are a couple pics of the welded wire run and another with the hardware clothe on with the birds free ranging. I just put up a 6 foot fence around the garden today to keep the birds and deer out. Will probably need to rig clamors around the garden to keep the deer out though...
