Feral cats - chicken predators?

I had a kitty visit us the other day, I really think he was trying to catch all the chickadees that steal my hens food. My girls put up such a squaak when they spotted him, he flew over the fence and I havent seen him since! I doubt the cat could take down a full size large hen.

As a cat owner, I have 3, I do not let my cats out ever.

All bs aside. I think it really depends on where you live. I have a bunch of barn cats and they don’t mess with chicks or chickens.
Some people do have serious issues with truly feral cats that will kill full grown birds.
The op most likely pulled the cat into the run and cage by whatever bait was used. I don’t know how long the cage was set but probably not long and caught him pretty quick. He’s probably been around before and hasn’t caused any issues with the chickens.

I do agree accidents do happen but most of the time the cat is a indoor outdoor cat, a strictly outside cat, or a feral cat and with most times it's a feral cat or a outside cat. So i shoot, that's my opinion and responsibilitie as a chicken owner to protect them

Yes. It definitely depends on where you live. I know in some places there are problems with feral cats, and others there aren't. Where I live, if you find a cat, chances are it's someone's pet. We don't have a feral cat population because we have such a healthy population of other predators, coyotes, foxes, badgers, bobcats, bears, mountain lions... a cat in the wild doesn't last but a few days at best. I'd assume here any feral cat has been eaten and any cat I find is likely a recently lost/escaped pet, but I know this certainly isn't the case in all parts of the country/world.

If the animal is on your property and it is not supposed to be then it is not cruel to kill it, in my opinion. My birds are the same as my bogs, and are looked at like family the same as my wife and kids which mean I will protect them from any threat. Having issues with them in the past is the reason they die on my property. I give them a chance to stay off the property if not that's there choice. It doesn't make me cruel it makes me not weak hearted. What's cruel is letting a animal you have takin responsibility for die because of negligence

Did I just read this right? Are you for real? Do you think they can read a no trespass sign? How the hell do you think they know if they come on your property they will die? There are tons of ways to protect your animals and kling others should be the absolute last resort unless you actually enjoy killing animals....

Jeez, how hard is it to drop the cat off at the shelter? Why are you even asking? Give the cat a chance. It probably was after mice anyway.

It depends on the cat. My security cams caught an unknown cat in my hen enclosure. I was initially worried until I saw it carry away a rat it caught. That being said, my personal cat (which is never allowed outside) would kill my chickens because he doesnt know any better, and the one time he got out, he immediately ran to the hen enclosure and began stalking them.

If i have proof a cat is interested in my chickens, its a dead cat, just saying. But, No sense in removing a perfectly good ratter.

My neighbor brought home a stray cat and lost 15 hens in one night....just killed them and left the bodies...cats will definitely go after chickens!!

No they can't read I'm not ignorant. If your a pet owner be a reasonable pet owner and keep them on your property or your taking a chance on someone shooting them or them getting ran over. I keep all my animals on my property and I'm not going to spend more money to keep someones cat out of my yard I'm going to shoot and kill it and if they have a problem they can come and I will deal with that to. I have the Wright to protect my animals from any threat
