Feral Chickens

I have a couple of free range wild chickens living around my house and was curious what breed they are. There used to be around seven chickens in all but predators have culled there numbers to two, so the two remaining are very flighty and won't let me close enough to get a good picture of them.

I lured them out with some cracked corn. The one pecking on the ground is the mother of the other chicken.

I think this rooster on the left is father to the younger hen...

I sure do miss the rooster (Golden) on the right... he was nice to the hens and took good care of them when the other roosters got killed.

We have a neighborhood to the south of us with many feral chickens. Some look like yours.l

I would say American Game Fowl.

Just curious, but if they are game fowl wouldn't the roos not tolerate each other?

introducing new roosters is a challange on its own though.
lots of beatings till the new game roos' learn their place.
I have several game roos, introduced and ones who had been living together for a while. they all get along fine, now.
takes about a month or 2 before everything settles into a smoothly run chicken house.
another thing I have learned when putting in new game roos' is to do it at night. by morning the older ones cant quite figure out who belongs and who is new.
