No bad smell here either. I ferment chick starter from the feed store. Look at the ingredient list for what if any animal protein they use. 'Crude protein' is just the value of the protein, not what kind it is. I ferment in 1 bucket which I keep in the run, it lasts for 3 days and then I refill and let it ferment overnight. Very simple. Takes about 5 minutes extra every 3rd evening. My feed has fish meal in it but the bulk of the protein comes from soy. Smells like home brew beer or sourdough starter. Temps here are in the mid 80s. White mold is great! I just stir it back in, green, black, pink or brown not good, but I've never seen anything other than white. Hope you don't give up - the thread started by Bee kissed on FF has tons of info - but the link in Bee Kissed's signature to tik toks page is the best IMHO.
