My fermented feed in water never has looked like this. This is day three of stirring and is supposed to be their feed for tomorrow, is it safe?

I haven't experienced this myself (limited experience with ferment feed), but a few quick searches pulled this up as "Kahm Yeast", which is sounds to be part of the normal process.

On the other side of fermenting, I do have a decent amount of experience with sourdough, and I think a decent number of the principles apply to both. From this, I would give it the smell test:
*Smells like a bakery - alive and well, chickens would enjoy this
*Smells like a brewery - alive, but running out of material, safe to feed to the chickens, but add more feed to keep this thing going
*Smells like death - something has gone wrong, you MIGHT be able to save it by adding more feed

That's Kahm. Arguably, its a good thing, in that it help prevent other, less desired things, from colonizing your ferment. It **IS** unattractive though.

That said, have you ever home-brewed beer? Early in the process, everyone has got to be thinking "someone is going to drink this??? I must have done something wrong..."

Sounds good. Thank you. It does still smell like my fermented feed, so if it’s still smells fine in the am, we will give it a go.
