FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Moved the FF inside today...too cold out there and the scoby went dormant, even in the cooler. Good thing that cooler had wheels, it made it easier to wheel the whole thing down to the house, up the steps, through the house and into the bedroom.

whoa glad it had wheels on it!!! mines been inside because I was afraid possums or something would get at it outside since I have no place to put it.
I just got done putting my 2 roosters in a pen to themselves. Got to give my poor hens a break from them. They don't have feathers on their backs and one of them that I checked this evening has a black hard spot on her skin on the side of her back. Not infected looking or anything just black and dried looking. So I'm giving them a break.
Wonder how long I need to keep them away from the hens to let their feathers grow back? Thought about making them some of those aprons for their poor backs. lol
Figure I will check all the others backs when I have some help out there and see if I might need to put something on their skin. Also wondering what to put as well?

That was quick! How many hens do you have for those two? Castor oil or NuStock either one will encourage feather regrowth and also provide an antibiotic/antibacterial treatment to the wounded area. Usually bare backs are too many roos or poor feather quality or both! I'd say yours have good feathering, so too many roos per hen would most likely be the problem. Are you sure you need both guys?

15 hens and 2 roos. Probably not Bee and you gonna tell me I need to eat one of em right? ;-) 13 is really good with the girls but he also has got at me a couple times but not since I whacked him good. But number 1 roo hasn't ever tried to peck me or anything. He's just as pretty as 13 now to but doesn't watch the skies like # 13 but am wondering if he was the main roo would he take on his duties and watch like he needs to. I'd rather eat 13 than 1. lol Hubbys thinking we don't need either guy since this is going to make it hard come feeding time. lol He's been tending to them a lot lately due to my health.

Also am wondering about the girls free ranging without the roos now since I don't have a dog or anything out there. I do keep my scarecrow moved around and try to stay out there what I can as well. Here lately it's been colder so I've just let them out in the evening to free range some and to get exercise.

Why don't you try them one at a time with the flock and see who the hens favor the most? I've noticed that the hens usually pick out the best if given a choice and you'll see more of them following the one they've chosen. The one that tried you on but obeyed correction and also watches the sky more would have my vote but you could still try alternating them with the flock to see how it goes.

You don't have to eat the extra..you can always sell him! If he's pretty, healthy, young and of a good laying breed, you can usually sell them pretty easily.

I'm sorry you are feeling bad...we really miss seeing your posts on here.

Oh I know He will Bee. It's just this on going problem I am having with these thyroids. I did blood work on Wed. I believe it was to see if I have hashimoto's. Since they are going from hypo to hyper on me I figured I would get tested to see about that. Dr. I'd been going to for them told me she had no clue why they were bouncing around like they were so I just quit going to her because I had to pay up front to go and she went up double on her prices to. When she told me she had no clue why they were doing that I just thought why keep going then?
Plus I love hearing them crow to.

The girls are split between those 2 roos. Most of the Aussies go with #1 and some rir are with him. But the others go with the other one. 13 is also the one that finds them food. It's the weirdest thing I have ever seen. He will stand there and watch them eat it. lol

My issue with moving it in and out of the house was that it'd get on the sides and get moldy. Have spent some time cleaning. For now, I'm scooping into a bowl and taking it out.

The castor oil is an antibacterial and antifungal, so no extra salve needed.

You know, one of my friends(a nurse) was having trouble similar to yours with her thyroid and had treated for years. They just couldn't get her meds regulated and had her all messed up..too high..too low, back and forth. Finally, she just stopped taking the meds and went on with her life. That was about 10 years ago and she has been off of thyroid meds ever since. She's doing great! Maybe it's time to stop with the medical intervention and see if your body can correct itself without that getting in the way? It took her a little time but she evened out on her own and never had a problem again.

I know...scary...but what if it works? Can't hurt to try as you are already feeling like crapola.

not taking anything Bee. She never did put me on anything since she didn't know what was going on. She figured out that my D was too low and that my iron was too low as well. So I'm sure all of that plays a part in this because I have read a lot about all of this and that's part of it. This is one reason WHY I wanted to be tested for hashimoto's. One more reason why I got off gluten and lots of grains due to health issues.
God is helping me big time because I have found 2 people in less than a week that has this. Met one day before yesterday and he even told me of a Dr. I can go to around here that will let me take natural stuff which I like much better. Not on any prescriptions except for a blood pressure pill. That's another thing my blood pressure is staying too high now.
Anyway waiting for those results now.

Do you eat any commercially derived dairy and meats? A lot of folks having hormonal difficulties from eating commercially grown animal byproducts. I'm glad you aren't on thyroid meds...I've given out a full ton of those over the years and never really saw where they helped anyone and mostly just caused more problems.
