FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I've used the wheat in the past, both when I fed dry and with the FF...both times the birds always left it to the last and sometimes they wouldn't eat it at all. That's the only grain I've ever given my birds that they didn't want to eat. I'm assuming it was due to the extremely hardened hulls...they won't even soften in the mix after having been in there for weeks. The meaties wouldn't even eat them and they will eat the shoe strings right off yer shoes!

I'm sure wheat is ground into the layer at some point.

This is so good to know. I'm thinking of supplementing or mixing my own feed mixture and was planning on using wheat as the bulk ingredient. I'll give it a try first with a small batch to make sure our birds will eat it!

I am loving my ff!! And so are the chickens!! They even got SPROUTED BOSS as a treat today. I was soooooo surprised when I looked and saw sprouts. Wasn't expecting them in 4 days!

I must have missed these pictures before. I have been saying to myself on a regular basis "Self...you need to ask Bee to post a picture of her feed trough". Glad I looked back thru here. I have been using a round plastic feed pan and the dominant hen gets right into the middle of it and does not like to share. I have been putting out a couple of flower pot saucers and putting a few scoops into them so the others could eat, but this looks much easier. I will be picking one up as soon as I can!
You guys are going to get a kick out of this! Remember I only have 4 girls who are still juveniles at 14 weeks. I got this at my local Ace Hardware in the office supply or kitchen section. I can't remember if it is a desk or drawer organizer. It is about 3.2" wide and comes in a couple of lengths. This one is 8" and I just bought a new one that is 12" since my girls are growing. I own an engraving store so I fashioned a holder out of scrap acrylic sheet stock. We ziptied it to the side of the coop run. The trays are only about $2.00.

I take the feed "trough" out at night and fill it in the kitchen in the morning. That way I can get the trough into the holder before I let the chickens out of the roost so they don't try to escape when I open the door.

Here is the trough empty in my kitchen

Here is the holder without the trough in it. Sorry chickens got in the way and it was early and I was still in my jammies

Here it is with the trough and ff

Much better angle.

That's Lemon posing in the background. You can see the one corner got broken off when we installed it. We cut the acrylic tongue and groove style and just glue it together. I am actually thinking about marketing the holders or selling the holders and tray together as a set. It might even work with dry food for a smaller flock, although I think most dry feed users have it continually available.

Wow! That's pretty cool! It looks like something I have used for dividing kitchen and bathroom drawers to organized them. I don;t think this one would be long enough with 10 girls, but 2 or 3 might be. I will have to check them out if the feeders at the feedstore are too pricey.

Chickens over a fresh kill in the snow...the realities of nature seem harsh but it's all about survival. I was lucky to get this shot, as one rarely sees the elusive Snow Chicken in their native habitat.

This one is going straight to NatGeo Wild's photo contest!

I don't think this is going to fool National Geographic. Those fat fluffybutts are obviously spoiled rotten.
