FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

thats pretty cool! I love re using things. I'll walk around my garage and see what I can use to keep everything clean

If you have a "mud" pan used for dry walling, they work well. My husband just put "S" hooks on them and we hang them on the hard cloth of the run.

You guys were right. Here's what I woke to this morning. I believe I have a good batch going now. And yes I poured the good stuff back into the batch after I scooped some out for the girls this morning.

Good planning with plate to catch.

I now have one bucket fermenting while first bucket in use. I just switch buckets when use bucket near empty. = More ferment
Ak rain

I was just wondering if anyone also does fodder along with their fermented food?

I just started to do some fodder. It's because my chickens run area where they spend their day has just a nice deep litter of pine straw mulch and leaves and dirt and rocks. I add more things to the run but grass doesn't grow there. I wanted them to get some live plants to eat everyday. So I have some barley and some wheat fodder I am starting. I have fed them FF since they were a week old. They at 5 months old now.

Have you had any trouble with mold on your fodder? If so, how do you fight/avoid it?

Thanks - I've been thinking of adding this to their diet too because their run is nothing but dirt now. Was all nice and green. Its funny how fast they have torn it up in 6 months.

Also in regards to my picture about this mornings ff, it was my hubby who suggested the plate. So glad he did.

I bought the victorio 4-tier sprouter from William and Sonoma. Here's a link: sprouter

Believe it or not it was the cheapest I could find that one for ($10). It's small (only 6" diameter). But I bought 2 (4tiers each)so I have one everyday for them and just rotate. I haven't had any trouble with molding. I know people sprout in canning glass jars but I think the lend themselves more to the mold problem. I put my sprouts all out at night so they breathe more. Then I stack them during the day switching which ones on top. It's been easy and quite fun to see them growing. I've tried chia, barley, alfalfa, wheat. I'm going to try some beans too because I have some old ones that weren't stored well. It's been great so far with no mold at all.

I.have that same sprouter but found that the trays wouldnt drain properly because the bottom tray wouldnt get enough air, so I had to drill a hole through every tray and put a straw through so the bottom tray can get air.
