Hey everybody, I've been missing out on a lot of good talk!!!!! Just got back from 3 weeks in rehab after getting my knee replacement done. Lovin' being home. It's really hard to put your trust in another to watch after and feed your babies. My SIL is 46 yo and hates chickens. (grandpa made him do it when he was a kid). So I had to discontinue the FF for a month and I can surely tell it. He's used twice the amount of feed and they are bedraggled compared to before. BUT he was willing (grudgingly) to feed them and I appreciate it. I can't go out to the coop by myself so I have to schedule the times I do things. First I want to make a BIG batch of FF. Get them started back to the good stuff.![]()
Beekissed can you tell me how much feed should I feed 29 chicken are if Fermented how much thank you Jerrey MaeGlad you are back, Miss Linda! So glad your surgery went well and you can get back to chickenin'!![]()
How do you currently feed your chickens? By the scoop?
Well, then, you are going to have to work this out for yourself as much as possible. Usually folks calculate a half cup to a cup of feed~dry or FF~ for each adult standard fowl, so that's a good place to start. You might find they eat quite a bit at first and then, after a couple of weeks, they may start leaving some feed behind. Then you can adjust your feeding amounts accordingly.
My birds free range for a lot of their food so I only feed once per day, even in the winter months. Some feed once per day, some feed twice a day. It's a matter of preference, so that will be up to you.
It's a whole new thing for folks who usually just dump feed in a feeder and don't keep track of feed consumption, so you'll have to learn how much your birds can eat on a daily basis without getting too fat or losing condition, either one.
