FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

I'd not put garlic in her ears! But IMO FF will help prevent yeast infections. How is her crop? Is it empty in the morning? Garlic does have good antibacterial properties, and I'm assuming that it's good for fungus, and viral issues as well. You could add a clove or two to their FF and see if that helps. If she were in my flock, she'd be on the short list for cull. Garlic is also an anti-helminthic. Don't use garlic on a regular basis as it is also a blood thinner.

Do some research re: olive oil for ear infections.

Her crop is fine.

I would expect FF to prevent yeast infections too; but in her case no. I'm wondering if it's a lactobacillus overgrowth- which looks exactly like a yeast issue until you look at both with a microscope. But feeding her separately from the flock is not practical.

I'll look at olive oil for ear infections- heard of it before and I guess it would smother the yeast. Thank you.

She'll be pleased she's not in your flock

Lol I bet she will ;)

In her ears, really? Weird, that's an odd place for a yeast infection :p

But something caught my eye in this article, aside from all the cautionary statements, yikes!

Oil of oregano sounds like a good possibility :)

Here's a more detailed study...

I found just the neatest scoop for my FF and thought I'd share with y'all. Of all places, found this at Walmart, in the kitchen utensils. It's a large ladle/strainer combination, black plastic, with a long handle and a deep bowl/ladle. It only cost $1.99 and it turned out to be just perfect! The handle doesn't have any spaces in it in which the FF collects and grows fuzzies and in which BOSS seeds sprout(this happens in my regular scoop's handle), it's sturdy and the whole bowl of the ladle is covered in large holes for draining out excess fluid. The handle is long enough to stir the whole batch in a 5 gal. bucket and it holds the same amount as my regular scoop holds~2 c..

I'm in LOVE.

Thought I'd pass that along if anyone was looking for the ideal thing for stirring and scooping up the FF...it's perfect for this purpose, very cheap and very sturdy. Should last a good long time.

Don't know, I've never really looked for such things before, having always just used a regular feed scoop but was in that department looking for something else and spied this wonderful tool and immediately thought it would be great for stirring and scooping FF...and it was! Very cheap, too, so it's a win/win.

Sorry....was not $1.99...was $3.97. Still cheaper than what I have paid for a cheap ol' feed scoop. Here's a pic...it's actually deeper than it looks here and holds a good bit of feed in that spoon. Has a nice long handle that you cannot see in this pic.

Looks perfect!

Does anyone have thoughts on what to do with "waste" ff? I'm going away for a week later this week, and my husband wont do the ff thing. I wont have a ton of waste, but enough that I don't want to just dump it in the run. Is it okay to put in my compost? Or dump it under some trees for the wildlife to eat?
