FERMENTED FEEDS...anyone using them?

Great idea oldbird. I haven't tried corn yet but my birds do love that stuff.

Would that be spent grains?
Your birds should love corn done this way, haven't seen a animal yet turn it nose up to fermented corn. (deer go crazy over it)
I think what oldbird is talking about is spent and we will just say it's form making biofuel

I tried giving it to them in the ferment with the rest of the stuff, but they were under 3 mon and wouldn't eat whole corn. Should I try again or just make sure I buy cracked next time?

Hi Flock Master you have hit the nail on the head BIOFUEL, but I did try it myself first before feeding it to the chooks many years ago and it's really pretty good tasting my Plymouth Rocks Light Sussex and Road Island Reds are out there pecking at it now oldbird1.

I would try it again whole, cracked or even both. Just do a small batch to see how they like it.

Hi Linda B220 I only use cracked corn and normally feed it to my chickens a round the 16 week old range but I do feed them milo seed from around the 12 week old when I can get it and they really tuck into that cheers oldbird1.

The world first and best BIOFUEL.
I alway have to test it, and it is tasty.

Oldbird, you are talking about sorgum, right? I live in the deep south in La and that's all my Mama used to feed her chickens. I think I'll try them out on it. I also bought whole white wheat to feed or to sprout. We'll see. I'm wanting to get a little variety into my feed rather than just crumbles.

Rice bran is 12% protein and I have a bag of it that I've been adding to the cracked corn and gamebird, and a little BOSS.

Hi Linda B220 what I call milo is a grain about the size of hundreds and thousands and is chocolate brown in colour and grows similar to wheat but with a lot bigger grain head is not grown here in Australia as much as in the 1950 era oldbird1.

I added water to scratch grains after a few days the fermented feed smells like sulphur. Should I dump it?

No, just add more grain and stir. Are you stirring daily. After making it up the first time you don't have to stir daily. It takes 4 or so days to ferment the first time. Afterwards, all you have to do is when it's about 2" from bottom of bucket, add water and stir and start adding the grain. Ready overnight.
