Fermented food portions?

How many birds? For a flock of 10 - 25 birds, just make a bucket of FF. You can then put out a bowl or trough full and see how long it lasts. If it's empty before the end of the day, give them more. Eventually, you'll have a sense of how much they will eat in a day. Even then, it's not a set amount, b/c if the scrounging is good, they will eat less FF. When I dump a new bag of leaves in the DL of the coop, the girls find lots to eat, so don't eat as much FF.

When your bucket is almost empty, you can replenish it. After the first ferment, the new bucket will be ready in 12 - 24 hours depending on the ambient temp and the temp of the water you use.
I only have a small flock of 5 hens at the moment, although I want to add a couple of ladies to the flock this yr:woot

My flock tends to get 1/2C of FF per day, plus snacks (just 2 hand fulls of BOSS for a flock of 27) and a couple of eggs (with shell). I have a couple of very small chickens, a couple of very big chickens, and the rest are about average size. They are all healthy and living fine.

I use a 2 cup scoop, and tend to OVERfill the scoop as it is winter and they require a bit more feed.
Hey you live pretty close to me, hey neighbor! :frow Thanks for the info :)
