Thanks! I kinda thought it was OK, but didn't want to take a chance!That's known as Scoby and it's the bacterial yeast colonies that are fermenting the feed. Sometimes they collect on the surface. As long as your mix still smells nice then there's nothing to worry about.

My first attempt at fermenting failed (aka FFF (first fermenting failure)). Now I know why. I’m off to start again with a different bucket.
(PS. Did you read any of the responses to her article? I love the person that read the whole article even though she doesn’t have chickens and will never have chickens)
