How do you tell if an egg is fertile or not?

If you crack the egg open, you will se a very tiny dot. If their is a bullseye around it then it is fertile.

But what if I want to hatch the egg?

Well, if you have a lot of eggs that came from the same hen or group of hens, then you crack one then incubate the others if that one was fertile. Or you could incubate for a few days and candle the eggs to see, but your best bet is number #1

There is no way to tell if an egg is fertile without either a) breaking it open, or b) incubating it for several days or a week to see if it develops.
