Fertile?

I wasn't sure which topic to post this under, but I think this is the best fit.

Anyway, how long after being bred will a hen lay fertile eggs?

I'm planning on breeding one of my silkies and putting her eggs under my broody cochin, and she may have been bred awhile back, but I'm not sure if her eggs would still be comming out fertile.

The longest I've heard of is 2 or 3 weeks after leaving the rooster.

I have read on BYC that it can last up to one month but that that is not typical.

2 weeks is more typical. But to be absolutely safe (like if you are a breeder and it really matters to you) then waiting one month is prudent.

Say that I introduce a rooster to my flock, when do the eggs start being fertile? The next day? A week?
