We have what I believe to be 2 brown leghorn roosters.. If I were to keep 1 to help with fertilizing some eggs.. will the fertilized eggs be a mixed breed? (ie if mated with a California white will the fertilized eggs be both mixed like most beings?) sorry for such a stupid question.. just didnt know if mother hen determined the chick breed or if a mix did..thanks.

You can mix breed chickens, just like a dog. You need to do some research on certain breed mixes. For example, a Frizzle is a mix. Just be careful about mixing chicken breeds, you mix the good and the bad; sometimes the bad can be overwhelming.

well so that leads me to my next question.. to get a bure bred Id need a male of each breed wouldnt I?

To get a pure bred chicken, the mother hen and the father hen need to be the same breed. If they differ, it is a mix.

Yes they would be mixed breed
To get purebred offspring yes you need a male and female of the same breed.
If you have different hens and you want purebred chicks from each you would need a rooster of each breed.

Frizzles aren't mix breeds. Frizzle is a gene not a breed. You can breed the frizzle gene into any breed.
Not sure what overwhelming bad you could get from mixing breeds. Never been my experience.

Have you done mating to have baby chicks ?

Yes, mix breed. Already starting with mix breeds, California whites are... mixed breeds of white leghorns and California greys..., that are mixes of barred rock with white leghorns..
A brown leghorn/California white cross, will most likely give you.. a excellent egg laying offspring.
Most likely, I'm not good on chicken color genetics just guessing, look like Pyle leghorns, roosters super pretty, hens not so much, like white leghorns with a little red color on their necks.
