Now I have a blue girl that is laying on a pile of eggs....

Does that mean they are fertile now? Do they know when their eggs are fertile? My pearl guineas are a year old now & the other colors will be a year old in the fall.

Any ideas on fertilization???? Thanks

Are you sure you have a male?

The very first egg my guineas laid were fertile...crack some open to check for a bullseye...if you see one...they are fertile...

The ones we ate this morning were a couple of weeks old & they were not fertilized.....so my question again is....

Does a broody guinea hen laying on eggs know that the eggs are fertilized????

They have no idea. They'll sit forever on eggs that will never hatch. One by one they'll kick them out as they start to rot. Same with chickens, ducks and geese.
