my husband, who wastes NOTHING, was wondering if our chicken droppings would make good fertilizer and if so, for any specific plants?( any info GREATLY appreciated, as I DON'T want him to start experimenting!!)

I have a compost pile. This spring I put all the cleanings from the past years hen house on my blueberries and rhubarb. It's not completly composted, but it adds mulch around the plants w/o burning them. Now for next year,or next fall, I have another pile started. Merry

I also throw it in the compost pile and use it on my fruit trees. It is excellent fertilizer. The egg shells are great too. I dry them in the sun and spread them around the plants. It is supposed to kill snails. When they crawl over them it slices their skin like glass so they don't go over them. It is great if you have a snail problem.

Tanya, glad to hear you have a responsible husband. If everyone was frugal like him, waste would be a no-problem for everyone.

It is one of the best fertilizers you can use.

I make sure it is at least 3 months old to avoid burning the plants. March 1st is the cutoff date for me applying directly to the garden before planting.

I have a large circle fence that I place my chicken poo in all summer long for next year's use.

In the spring before planting it is all spread on the gardens without any smell, but still nutritous for all my gardens, and we grow everything needed for a full year and beyond.

If you know anything about blueberries help me, Please!!
I transplanted mine when we moved about 6years ago and since then they have been nothing more then a couple twigs with leaves and they get about 3 blueberries each per year.
Know anyway to get them bushy again?
Back on track
Were planning to use our 2 plastic compost bins, if anyne wants to comment on that, they are about 3 feet high , a bit larger around then garbage cans, with holes in the sides and lid.
Our four chickens arnt even out in the coop yet , so im not sure how well it will work, we will see.

barg-try going to www.watersblueberryfarm.com I purchased two plants from them and they are so extremely helpful in answering questions. I have not moved mine but I followed their planting instructions to a tee and so far they have survived a major ice storm we had here plus a very late, very hard freeze the first of April.
