One of the proublems I had with polish was all the none polish would pick at his head till he was bloody.It was just the hens doing it.I finally rehomed him to a fellow BYCer where he free ranged till something got him.

Polish are fun & cool looking - but you really need to protect them from everything.

The big poof of feathers covers their eyes so they just stand there & look at their feet all day.

Well - everything eats chicken - & every chicken that just stands there gets eaten. So - they require special care.

You can do it - but buyer beware - most polish don't make it 2 years.


Buff Orps are cool - I have those - great birds.

I have lots of polish and I never have issues with them. However they are in my fenced in backyard and rarely go out of the fence. My other chickens do not pick on my polish but they (polish) were around before the others. If you want polish, I'd introduce them all together from the very beginning and hopefully you would have no problems. Another pretty one with a crest is the Mottled Houdan. I have one of those too. She's the sweetest thing.

I also thought about getting some Orpingtons but I chose Wyandottes over them for some reason. My Wyandotte eggs will be here next month.
