I must not be the only one that has collected some eggs, marked them by date, set them aside to hold for a few days of collection, but forgot to add them into the incubator. *FACE PALM*

So ive candled them, none of them have any development of an baby being formed inside. Some have an air spot that seems to be formed. Would it be safe to incubate them, would anything happen to them? Would they even hatch out at this point. Curious as to if anyone else has ever experienced this sort of dilemma LOL.

I normally don't hold past 5 days of daily collection.

Thanks for any feedback
Happy Chick Hatching!

Are you talking about one week old eggs? I can't tell for sure from your post.

I regularly store eggs for 7 days before they go in the incubator and have great success. How they are stored makes a difference though. I used to take the turner out of the incubator and store the eggs pointy side down in that on a dresser in the spare bedroom, but my wife got a house dog so I lost that option. Now they are stored laying flat in a drawer of that dresser. I turn the eggs a few times a day. The temperature is really steady.

There are certain ideal conditions for storing eggs to hatch. The ideal temperature is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't have that, room temperature is in the 70's. The humidity should be pretty high, I don't have that either. You do not want to store them pointy side up, that can displace the air cell. The temperature should remain pretty constant. They should be turned a few times a day to stop the yolk from settling to touch the porous egg shell, where it can be stuck.

The closer you are to ideal conditions the longer you can store the eggs and them remain viable. If everything is pretty close to ideal two weeks is fine. Since I'm not that close I limit it to one week.

One time I left a bowl of eggs on my kitchen counter for a week while I went to visit family. When I got back I collected eggs for a week to put in the incubator. Since I had extra room I put 18 of those old improperly-stored eggs in the incubator, specially marked. None hatched. I broke them after incubation and none had even started to develop. They were all two to three weeks old.

I notice you just joined, welcome to the forum. Your post reads to me like you may have already started some eggs and want to add more later. I suggest against that. That would set up what we call a staggered hatch. You want to start all the eggs at the same time so they hatch at about the same time. Otherwise you get issues about turning them, managing humidity, and the incubator getting really dirty from the first ones hatching so it can really stink by the time the last ones do. There are techniques to handle most of those issues but I would not try it until you have more experience hatching.

hi. I need help. first time incubating eggs in a homemade incubator, I started with still air, yesterday day 14 the humidity went up to 79% and the air sac looked more like a 7 days than a 14 days so I wanted to bring the humidity down, I put a fan in to help lower the humidity but kept the temperature at 102 according with still air temperature and the humidity went down to 30% this morning. I turn off the fan this morning before coming to work at 3:30am.
do you guys sing my eggs are going to be ok, I will candle them when I get home, the wait and thinking if I created some type of damage to my eggs/babies is killing me. I need some words of assurance that they will be ok
tia

They will be OK. I've read in another thread where this girl had her eggs at high humidity for a few days nearing hatch date and the air cell was too small, she lowered the humidity for 3 more days or so until hatching and they came out fine.

Are you saying that the air cell hadn't gotten any larger between day 7 and day 14?
It's hard to know if you can get them larger in another 3 days just by turning on a fan.

I just candle them and they all look fine.
What do you mean "they all look fine"?
Did your humidity stay low?

i meant that they are all moving and looked like the temperature was it too high. The humidity is at 30% now. The air cells doesn’t look any bigger than yesterday
I don’t know what to do

I turned the fan to circulate the air and bring the humidity down which I was able to do in hope that by keeping the humidity down the air sac with eventually grow in the next three days before lock down Friday.

A good sign!
