FFA hatching!! Quail are reproducing! WOOT!!!

You know, I'm not laughing at all!! I saw those plastic cart thingys at walmart one day, you know the ones with the drawers? I told my dad that would be PERFECT to put chicks in!! I'll have to go yard-saling this summer and look for an old dresser! We have the HUGE Hwy. 127 yard sales here in (June, July, August?) and you could find anything you want, if you take the time to look! Heck, I might even find a real brooder, who knows?

Candling update!

We lost about 100 eggs after candling last night. The FFA kids are candling the ones in there today. Here are the results

MA-Redhen 27 lost. I think they must have gotten shook up-no air cell.

I also think some of the duds were due to out or you or my control (shipping) most that were bad did not have an air cell, indicating violent shakeup in travel. It is ok, they still give the kids stuff to look at. I took some of the duds in this morning so he can candle them for the class and show the blood rings and the ones that started (you can see a black dot) and died (blood ring) and some clear ones and he was going to bring in a plain storebought egg too.

I broke open the pheasant eggs. 3 were perfectly clear. 1 the yolk was black like it tried to do something but did not progress. Just thought you would want to know.
