I am helping the FFA adviser this year again to locate different breeds to incubate. One incubator for chickens/quail (18/21 days hatch), one for ducks/geese(28 day hatch).
I will be responsible for everything so any help you all can give would be great. I will not get paid back for shipping or cost of eggs and they keep all that hatch. I am just trying to be nice and help them learn and grow! Also the kids will be keeping any that they want to show at the fair and we will sell the remainder and the kids will get the profit. I will keep nothing unless I buy them from the kids.
So anyone with any types of egg (except things like phesant, or birds that need a special permit) please let me know. Goose, duck, chicken, button quail, coturnix quail all will work. They can be purebred or Mutt (mixed) eggs. If you would like to donate purebred eggs please let me know so the kids can show them in the pure breed classes at the fair instead of the mixed breed classes.
Thanks in advance.
Last year I had a thread that i kept everyone updated on the progress and it was a lot of fun. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=120054 I have a homemade candler that we took the kids in a dark room and showed them the eggs growing. I will do the same this year.
Hatching will start March 1 time frame. I have room in my BIG incubator for 800+ eggs so if we get more than 2 Little giant incubtors full not a problem. I can hatch them in the big incubator.
OH YEAH, and if you are near North central Missouri I can meet you somewhere and pick up the eggs instead of mailing to save us on shipping.
Thanks for everyone's help in making this a successful FFA unit! You all ROCK!!!
