So, I have 6 male ducks, 2 female ducks, and a African gander. They are on the pond with acres of green pasture surrounding it. The male ducks seem to fight endlessly, especially in spring. They also have their own "gangs".There is the least dominate group of 2 male mallards and 1 female mallard. Then the 2nd most dominate group consists of 2 male ducks, a rouen and a runner cross. Finally the dominate group consists of the goose and 2 mix breed ducks, one female and male. I have 10 female ducks in the brooder right now, but for now how do I ease their fighting?

It's great that you have more females in the brooder because having more females will definitely help the testosterone overload in your drakes, but in the meantime, I would just keep an eye on them. They should be able to work things out, even if they are not overly friendly towards one another. I currently have 3 females and 17 males (for some reason my duck hatches keep turning out about 95% male), but they get along fairly well. How old are the drakes doing the fighting and what breed are they?

I'm interested in hearing more about this, so I will definitely keep checking this thread. Good luck.

Other than seperating them and locking some of the drakes up, I see no solution. I would be concerned with the drakes gang breeding the ducks and inadvertantly drowning them.
