Hello, I am a new member from Hopatcong, New Jersey and our town currently has an ordinance forbidding chickens unless you have 3 acres of land. I am in a fight with the local council to have this law amended to allow at least 3 hens for every 1/10 of an acre but I face an uphill battle in a town scarred by 1 man who did not care for flock years before I moved here.
The one man alone has turned this town against chicken ownership because his neighbors complained that on his tiny lot he had roosters crowing and nearly 50 chickens roaming with no cleanup of the feces. Myself and others in the town are trying to change that image and hope we can get some support from you guys.
Our Facebook group is located here.
I look forward to meeting and discussing poultry with all of you!
