Makes are almost always going to fight, once they are of breeding age.
I separate males and females. Except for the breeder sets I have 2 breeder sets.
I have a grow out pen.
And 2 brooders of different ages.
We raise for food, so once the grow out reach 6-8 weeks we harvest. I can’t separate every single male out with his own females I will have 30 pens full lol. I keep more females for eggs and harvest males. 3-5 females per rooster is good or the females may get over-screwed.
If I am mixing up quails I take them all out, clean all the pens, put them back with food dishses in different place and no one fights.
The males I had separated out for harvest did not fight at all.
I did have one male separated for the past week because I needed the outside space, he did not crow at all, I’ve had other males separated by themselves for a small while and they did not crow constantly either. Once in a while they would.
Perhaps I have quiet quail but I rarely hear crowing. Everyone seems content.
