Fighting Roo's

I have two roosters and four hens. Reading all these posts I am becoming discouraged about having two roosters. One is a black Polish and the other a brown leghorn. The former is kinder to the hens and stands watch over them when laying. The latter has grown really large lately and is dominating the Polish and attacking him every day--chasing him around the yard relentlessly. Fortunately the property is big enough that they don't always see each other. I am afraid I will have to find another home for one of them.

Depending on the individuals sometimes you can keep more than 1 roo with a flock without them fighting. But with only 4 hens it seems that 2 roos is at least 1 too many. Especially with a Polish, they often get picked upon by the others -- and considering their appearance, who can blame them?

You should either get a many more hens or send one of these guys packing...

If you want to build several smaller coops you could keep 1 roo and 3 girls in each smaller pen. That would be one way to keep more of the roos since you like them so much. If you can't do smaller coops to keep the roos with their own girls then I must agree 1 roo is plenty with 12 hens.

I have two coops, one with five chicks 8 wks old one with six (three roos and three girls) 20 wks old? There are three!!!Cocks in one and i was so upset to discover there had been a battle of sorts ..two were severely pecked, wings head everywhere. One cock was unscathed. i do not know if that means he was not fighting or is the king ..I have separated the other two with a round of chicken wire made into a circle and tied at the top to make their own temporary pens. THey are very mad. advice??? I do not want to seel them or give them away where i live cock fighting is very popular and I could NEVER do that. Also I cried so when I saw what they had done to each other. This was after living peaceably together for 20 weeks. I think it started after I started letting them out for chicken walkabouts as the coop there are in dows not have a run and my husband is buliding a huge one with run but has not finished it . Need help.

cull the roos. I waited too long and mine pecked the hens and each other until they started looking mangy. Now I have 2 roos to 30 hens and I think this is enough.
