fighting roosters I need help to stop it!

I rescued 3 roosters from my work who were dropped off! I've had them for about 6 months and they got along great until 3 days ago. I noticed them attacking eachother or 2 would gang up on 1. This has never happened before,they were allways together they roost together they run around together we call them the 3 muskateers. we do not have any hens, they free range on 5 plus acres, and go to visit my neighbors everyday and they seemed to be doing great. I have no Idea what type of roosters they are! Im just trying to help them with a safe place to call home. My family loves them! I was told that I'd have to seperate them for good! Is this true? Should I break up the pack? Right now I have them all seperated 2 of them are in 2 differant cages because of the damage they caused to eachother! Should I find new homes for the 2, or let them out and see what happens! I dont want another scene like before not only were the boys traumatized, but so was my family. Any input would be great! thank you christal

I too have 3 roosters but also one hen. Two of the roosters get along fine and stay together with the hen. The third rooster has to stay separate. Nothing I have tried has worked. He would fight them to the death, not just for pecking order establishment. That is my experience. The third is just a fighter, that is it. He is fine with humans but hate other chickens.

Roosters can be weird. Across the road from my house there are 7 little bantam boys that have been living together (no hens) for years. No fighting, no problem. I have 28 chickens - 4 of them are roosters - and so far everyone seems to get along. I just had to rehome 2 other roosters that just wouldn't mellow out, so you just never know. You said 2 of your boys got along, but ganged up on the third. Can you rehome #3? If the other 2 get along, they should be fine. Chickens are flock animals, so I would think the remaining 2 would be able to hang out. Good luck.

My flock of pheasants usually cause conflict between the roosters during the breeding season. I always fit them with blinders in the winter before they start to compete for hens. I'm certain that blinders can be used on chickens as well. They limit thier view of everything going on in the coop. It may not keep them from trying to fight but the blinders do keep them from seeing each other when trying to square off to fight. Roosters need to see each other face to face when fighting. The blinders disrupts this one on one confrontation. I never found anything that caused any problems except for a dumb rooster that had a problem finding the feed. He soon learned to adapt.
