Our flock is a week and a half old and we are dealing with 100 degree temps. Our brooder is on an enclosed porch and gets quite hot.
I figured if they were hatched and raised by a hen they would be out side in the grass so I created a place for them to play.
We built a small cage/run for them and placed them in the shade of a big maple tree. They had a wonderful time even at 100 degrees in the shade. It was like watching a fuzz ball circus as they chased bugs, each other and scratched and pecked in the grass.
A half hour after we put them back in the brooder they were all sound asleep. They had quite a day outside.
We have every kind of predator available except maybe bears so the cage is totally enclosed and we watched it closely. Coyotes can come out of the woods around here any time day or night. The 22/250 is close by.
