fighting toms

i have 2 toms and 2 hens the hens are nesting they are all in the same coop and pen . so far the toms have been ok last night they got into it until it got dark first thing this morning the were fighting. I have them separated and they are fighting through the fence. do i have to separate them were the cant see the hens at all will they stop fighting . will they settle down after breeding season . or get rid of 1. i know i need more hens but now is not the time to get more.

A solid divider just 3-6 inches taller than the tops of the tallest Roosters/Toms heads will fix that, and is a good practice between all pens with common sides.. it can be a sheet of tin or something similar, wood works too but don’t make contact with the ground to keep it from rotting.. good luck

You need to get the toms out of the area where the hens are nesting. The toms will take the sitting hens as an invitation to breed. The unwanted breeding attempts can end in broken eggs, injured hens and or dead hens.

Two toms in with two hens can also mean a very low fertility rate as the toms will do everything possible to keep each other from completing the breeding act.
