Finally A Dad!!!!!!

Have been waiting what seems like forever but it finally happened yesterday. My fiance called me around 4:30pm and told me that Foxy Brown is sitting in the nest box and moving the shavings around. She went back inside the house for about 5 minutes to give her some privacy. When she came back out she noticed something white buried in the shavings and long and behold there was our first egg. We were so happy!!!!! People were telling us that they might not lay until spring because it gets dark pretty early here in Seattle but she did it. Hopefully the other girls will surprise us with a Christmas present.

Congrats! What pretty brown leghorn! How old is she?
Ours is 17.5 weeks and her white leghorn buddy of the same age started laying a couple days ago. She's not showing ANY signs of dropping an egg.

Pullets when they first lay don't lay by a calendar. Pullets will lay anytime of the year. I had some start in January and some in February. People told me they probably wouldn't start laying until spring. Surprise...
