(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My family started keeping chickens when I was about 12. We hatched our first batch of mixed hens, and just kept going from there. Now I have moved out and married a wonderful man who supports my love of dogs, backyard gardening, and chicken keeping. We just got our first hens together June 3rd, 2020.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
3 hens, but we plan to get 4 more chicks soon.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Lohmann Browns are the hens.
Getting some RIR chicks soon.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Happy clucks, plump hens, scrap disposal, compost, FRESH EGGSS, and hens that follow you around like puppies.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Vertical vegetable gardening, writing fantasy/sci-fi, raising mealworms...
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have a baby on the way, due in July. We have a sweet shepherd dog who gets along with the chickens (most of the time). My husband loves to grill, cook, and bake (hallelujah!) And I am a massage therapist by trade.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I came across different BYC threads from time to time while researching different chicken things. Recently one of our hens developed bumblefoot plus a strangle bulge on her foot, so I decided to register with BYC and see what help I could get. Link to that question below:
