I've been working with a teeny little 10x10 coop for a year now. I never get to shut the door, because I have litk 40 chickens, so I let them have the run of the barn. But today i'm finally getting a coop built! Yay. A friend is coming and putting a wall o' chicken wire across the back side of the barn so I can finally segregate the big girls from the little ones. So i'll have a 20x15 or something, and the 10x10. The little coop has a covered run, the bog one doesn't. So I can let the big girls out in the fenced area and the babies can stay safe under shelter.
Now I need another ladder for roosting.

And more nest boxes.

?? for you, when your hens run in the barn during the winter, do you have lights on,for egg production?. I have mine in a small tractor ,attached to a small coop and I want to let them in the barn but didn't know how that works with the lighting thing.
Thanks, juice

I leave the lights on a night probably 3 out of 7. Some nights I feed them late, and like to leave the lights on so they can see. They come and go as they please for the most part

I don't really do it for egg production, but it seems to be having an effect on it. I feel kind of bad though- those ladies need a break now and then
