Hi all, my name is Ty. I am new to BYC but grew up on a ranch and am very familiar with chickens, however this is the first time having my own flock which is quite different than all of those years turning to my parents when I was a kid. My partner and I finally got enough property and we are so excited for this years garden and chicken adventures. We have two young kids, two dogs and now 5 little chicks. We intent to expand our flock in May, but we wanted to start with a smaller group at first. I am mostly here on BYC to learn about behaviors, ailments, proper nutrition and care for my sweet little birds. Thank you all for being here and sharing your knowledge!

My adult chicken experience was a complete shock to me, I suddenly realized how insulated my mom kept me from the difficult/traumatic side of things growing up with chickens, but it all balances out in the end and is totally worth it. Good luck to you!
Absolutely. It is a whole new world when you are the one responsible for the care and health of the animals.

Hi Ty and welcome to BYC :frow Congrats on getting chicks 🐥🐥we love pictures if you'd like to share
I will definitely get some pictures! I took some the other day, but realized in our temporary kennel setup that my chicks looked dirty and dead which is just SO NOT how they live or how I want to be portrayed. @Lovely Lettie was very kind in pointing those things out in my other thread, but I definitely don't want everyone thinking that is how we keep our little feathered friends. Lol, you know "you live and learn" haha.
