My 9 week old quail laid an egg this morning! She's the oldest by a week, and she's been mooning around for days singing her egg song. I was starting to think she was egg bound, but she finally laid this morning.

Now for the question: My other hen has a crooked neck. I THINK it's because she needed a little help hatching (which can mess up their musculature). It's been crooked since birth. Has anyone seen this before? Or is it hereditary? I have 4 of her eggs in the bator, but if it's some kind of defect that can be passed down, I won't be using her as a breeder anymore. Anyone know?

You wont know until you hatch her babies if its something to worry about.

So just see how those eggs go and if you see even one with the same issue id say it's safe to say it's genetic. If its not then maybe it was just in the shell isue just like crooked toes
