One of my Speckled Sussex pullets finally laid her first egg 3 days ago! It was just perfect with a hard shell. At 28 weeks of age, I was starting to get anxious. She has since laid 2 more eggs. The other 3 pullets should start laying any day. I wanted to share this exciting news as I am a new chicken owner and have been reading up on BYC for the past year. Thanks for all the great suggestions!

Yay! First egg is a great surprise.
Sussex do take longer to start laying eggs than most breeds.
But, they will continue to lay through the winter months when production breeds may slow down.
