Thanks to everyone who said to put easter egg in nest box. It worked for my leghorn (I do believe she's the smartest in the bunch) first egg from her this morning right next to bright yellow easter egg. But also found what was left of a brown egg on floor. Haven't a clue who's the culprit. Hopefully the reason they ate it is that one of the ladies forgot to sit down and it broke. I forbid them to be egg eaters. (do you think that will work?)

Congrats on the healthy flock. Young pullets make laying mistakes from time to time. Collecting eggs often is just good management....of course chickens will eat any broken egg in the coop, making your close eye to what's going on important.

This is key to avoid egg-suckers being born.

Make sure the nests are a dark place to lay....a simple cloth on the entrance does wonders.

Thanks bigzio, didn't know about the privacy thing...will put a curtain on today!

Also painting the inside of the nest boxes a dark color helps as they prefer dark places. I put golf balls in my nest boxes.
