So I have two mares due to foal. The first is due 3/31 and the second - well, I have yet to be able to pin the breeder down to a date. She has changed the breed date several times, I've at least narrowed her down to sometime in April (but that's a whole 'nother story).

So "Buffy" has had all her pre-foaling vaccs, worming and I'm checking her bag daily. No changes yet........Do have all my foaling supplies ready and waiting and the vet on speed dial. I've foaled plenty of other people's babies, this will be my first for me. So very excited!!! Considering how everything else has been going in life right now, it's really something to look forward to.

Anyone else with mares due soon?

Do we get to see pics of the Sire(s)? I had a miniature foal born two days ago, and have one more to go. Not sure on a due date, my calender got torn apart and I lost part of it, including the part that listed her due date. I believe I've got about 2 months to go.

Good luck! I have 2 mares due, but I send them over to work and let them foal there. I get too nervous. I just want the phone call that its all done and over and I can come look at a new fluffy baby.

I plan on breeding Buffy to a horse call Barbican, if he is still doing well in the shed next month.

Otherwise she'll go to Wiseman's Ferry unless Toccet becomes available

I'd
really really like to send her and Zen to Toccet! His pedigree is brilliant and his babies can run AND win! My contract gives me a free breed to the stallions standing at Dana Point. However, Toccet is a really recent addition to their roster so he's currently "not on the table" for that deal.

My maiden mare, Pumpkin Roll, is also going to Wiseman

After my mare foals down here in the sunny warm weather, Ill ship her and her baby to Ky. I like them to foal here so I can keep an eye on them. She's going to Stephen Got Even....his Schoolyard Dreams just got beat a zot in the Tampa Bay Derby yesterday.

Lets get thru foaling with mares and foals healthy and happy.

Nice! Who are they in foal to now? Did you use any of the nicking programs to decide on that particular match?

I'm super bad about following the races before the triple crown. Then I rush to get caught up. I just never got into reading the race recaps in the TB Time or Bloodhorse or even the DRF. ALthough, I do like betting. DH and I are supposed to make a trip down to Philli park, but haven't got around to it yet.

I only use the nicking patterns to try and get a discount. Some of the farms will give a nice discount if you're an A++ nick. I dont ever use it to determine who I use, tho. I like who I like, regardless of nicking patterns. My mare in Florida is in foal to Halo's Image.

I use them to verify what I already "know". I like to look at pedigree in my price range, then body type/build and race record/performance. I look at nicking last. I use both enicks and truenicks, but you can get really different results. From what I understand enicks looks at only gsw vs true nicks which looks at overall race records.

The thing about the nicking is there are some farms putting way too much emphasis on A+ grades. I mean, if you wanna go that way, great, but not all A+ grades are good matches. And, if you are gonna go that way, I think the better program to use is the one that looks at an over all picture. Enicks will give A++ grades to lots of crosses when Truenicks won't. From what I understand it's really hard to get an A++ or better with them.
