Well, for now anyway.

Our two Buff Orpingtons arrive tomorrow and we can't be any more excited. DH is actually getting excited too! YEAH! I finally found a local farm store that will get Australorps in so we'll pick up the third girl on Saturday. Can't wait!!!

I've been coveting the Blue Orpington. I did find a local 4-H kid that had a Blue Orp hatching but he is building his flock and doesn't want to sell yet. He said maybe he'll sell next year. Oh, I hope, I hope, I hope. LOL! I have fallen head over heels for the patterning of the Blue Orpington.

I will post pictures so everybody can see our girls.

Wish us luck. We're first timers. LOL!

Oh, BTW, names for the girls. Buffs will be Nelly PeckHen (DD names) and Beatrice Beakman. Aussie will be Callista Flockheart. LOL!!

I am a newbie to the chicken world also. I have 4 Buff Orpingtons that are 41 days old. I love them to death. They are all friendly except for one who just isn't to sure what the hand is up to when it picks her up. Their names are Ennie, Meanie, Miney (Cheepy) & Mo (Cluckers). My 89 yr old grandmother came up with the names for them and my son the ones in parentheses. I covet the Blues and really would love to get a couple Lavenders. You will find out chicken math will get you one way or another eventually. Good Luck with your new babies.

My BO's have stolen my heart. They have such chubby bodies and such ample behinds. But it is their personalities that have won me. They are just the sweetest of all my hens. While no chicken seems to actually wants to be held, the BO's hardly object. And they like to jump up on my lap if I sit in a chair. They are pure sugar! Enjoy them. Mine have only just started laying. I was expecting light brown eggs but was surprised that about half of them actually lay a pretty dark egg - and they lay LOTS of eggs. Again - Enjoy!

I have posted this picture before but this is how sweet and docile our hens are - we call this pic "biker chick" (that is my son on the trike)

Awesome! I love their "ample" behinds as well. The gentleman at the farm store recommended the breed & I've heard great "reviews" from folks on this board.

If you've seen the movie Despicable Me when the littlest girl says "IT'S SO FLUFFFFY!" - talking about the stuffed animal at the carnival, that's what runs through my head every time I talk about their big fluffy butts. LOL! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. Better than Xmas! WOW, I need to calm down... LOL!

Thanks for sharing the pic of Biker Chick and your son.

We actually have a hen, Pearl, that likes to lay her eggs in the house. I know, I know, I am showing my crazy chicken-lady side when I admit this. But she stands at the gate and paces until we let her in, then she scurries to a dark corner and settles in.

I don't know if I just stumbled onto a sweet breed, or if it is because we handled them a lot but they are total sweeties.

Agree with what everyone has posted! We have 2 buff orps who are just the sweetest.

My husband gave them the ultimate complement when he said, "That's what a chicken should look like!"
