SO found a person that is looking for roosters and swears they aren’t going to eat them, that’s her only stipulation on giving away the roosters.
We don’t have the heart to cull them , but we have way too many, and for the sake of our ladies backs we have to do something. That and I’m working out of town so never got around to building the bachelor coop.
We are getting rid of 11 out of 21 roosters in a flock of 120 hens.
We are keeping 2 Brahma, 1 RIR, 2 Polish, 1 Silkie ( he’s the first Roo we got and no other Silkies lived past the bobcat catastrophe) , 3 bantams, and a dwarf Rooster.
All the ones we are keeping are gentile to the hens, mostly other than the initial snuggle struggle, and only one aggressive towards people but he’s a bantam so it’s not a big deal since he can be trapped under a bucket until he calms down.
We’re getting rid of some good looking roosters, but they are too mean to the ladies, raping in groups, and unnecessary clawing/ pecking when they mount.
