I was originally going to get 10 three day old RIR, but decided to go for 10 older RIR chicks at 3 weeks old. I was of course a nervous wreak all night. But they were just fine this morning, peeping and playing in the brooder. Of all nights in Louisiana, we had a cold front (low was 44) so I moved them inside just to be on the safe side. They had no trouble finding their food or water. I am just scared about the light making it too hot for them. I have them in a homemade brooder (big rubbermaid container, nice size hole cut out of top, wire screen, and light (60 watt bulb)) I will be getting a thermometer today to check the exact temp. The temperature for 3 week olds should be 75-80 degrees right? Is there anything else I am forgetting or should be doing?
