Good Morning!

I live in the Berkshire hills in western Massachusetts and have been a mother to six chicks now for almost two weeks, 2 Barred Rocks, 2bbuffBorps and 2 New Hampshire Reds. I have two questions:

1) How long do I keep them on starter feed?
2) When do I move them to their outside coop? Currently they are in an inside brooder.

Thanks so much!

Hello and welcome to BYC! You can move your chicks outside once they are about 6 weeks old, depending on the weather. If it's warm at night you could probably do it sooner. Don't know about starter/grower feed, never used it

from Highland County Ohio!!! You can keep them on starter feed until they are 6 to 7 weeks old.

Sorry, I am having some posting issues in the last few days. I keep my chicks on medicated starter to at least 6 weeks, or longer if they are undergoing any stressful events at that time - such as moving them outdoors. You can keep them on it for quite a while if you want to. I switch to a grower/finisher until point of lay.

Hi,

from California! I moved my chicks outside when they were mostly feathered out but I'm sure I babied them too long haha.

Hey! FYI I love my New Hampshire Reds. They are great birds and have a lot of personality!
