It seems like forever that I have wanted chicken and finally took the plunge. We couldn't decide which breed we liked best so ended up with an assortment -- Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, golden laced Wynadotte, NH red, Black Australorp, light Brahma. Our Buff has a hard time getting up to the roosting pole, flying is just not her thing. Right now we are trying to teach them the art of leaving the coop in the day for their run and returning at night -- both seem to be a challenge but its only been a few days. That's about it.

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

So happy you got chickens! We'd love to help if you have any questions.

I love those buff orps! I have three of them. One of mine also has a very hard time getting onto the roosts. They are just a heavy breed.

Again, welcome and good luck with training them to return home at night.

Welcome To BYC! Im a new member also..

When I moved my chickens outside I shut them into the coop for 2 weeks. You need to be careful of heat since it is summer but after the 2 weeks they were more than excited to come out and they went back in. I know there is a thread somewhere here that can describe it better than me. But this is where I found the answer when I had that problem.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have a nice assortment of friendly chickens!!

If you have any questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

Welcome to BYC! You have a nice mixed flock. BOs are poor flyers, but very nice chickens to have (calm and gentle). Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. They have the same calm, gentle temperament of the Orpingtons (not surprising since they were originally bred using Orpington stock) and are better layers. Hang in there with their training and good luck with your flock.
